Goals and Objectives for 2010-2011 Highland Terrace Parent Teacher Association Goal 1 Student Enrichment: Support academic, cultural, social, and health and fitness activities at Highland Terrace. a) Help purchase library materials and sponsor library events. b) Offer academic enrichment programs for students such as Spanish classes, Chess Club, math, art and science programs, AR tests, garden boxes and the school play. c) Provide scholarships as necessary to support participation in school activities. d) Assist teachers with purchasing classroom supplies. e) Provide funds for field trip transportation as requested. f) Sponsor extra-curricular events such as the Fall Fun Event, skating parties, field day, and assemblies. g) Participate in the Shoreline School District programs such as Reflections and Math Olympiad. h) Support the Highland Terrace physical fitness programs with funds for special purchases and playground supplies. Goal 2 Community and Family: Keep Highland Terrace and the community connected, and promote healthy families to the benefit of children. a) Support community building activities such as the Pancake Breakfast and Embrace Shoreline. b) Support the Shoreline School District’s Family and Community Services Program (The Works). c) Maintain landscaping to enhance Highland Terrace’s surroundings to the benefit of all. d) Support community affiliates (donations to local museums, Shoreline Foundation). e) Support the area in the library dedicated to parenting materials. Goal 3 Speak on Behalf of Children: To promote the welfare of children and youth in schools, in the community and before governmental bodies and other organizations that make decisions affecting children. a) Participate in the Shoreline School District and state PTA meetings, events, and legislative activities. b) Become active in the legislative/levy branch of the Shoreline School District PTA. Goal 4 General: To promote continuity and strength in the HTPTA a) Ensure the continuity of the PTA at Highland Terrace and follow guidelines provided at the Shoreline School District and state levels. b) Effectively communicate at all levels. c) Coordinate educational goals with Shoreline School District goals by supporting focus areas
